General Information.

Usworth Grange Primary School in the new town of Washington, Tyne & Wear is a community school within Sunderland Local Education Authority. The school caters for the educational needs of children from three to eleven years of age, having its own 26 place nursery. The majority of children transfer to the local comprehensive school at eleven. The school is also host to a Moderate Learning Difficulties Unit which provides for the needs of up to 31 children with statements of special educational need. This is an authority provision and draws children from throughout the Sunderland L.E.A. area.

There are at present 224 pupils on roll consisting of 23 in nursery, 194 in main stream and 31 in the M.L.D. unit.
The school currently supports a staff of 14 teachers including the Head. There are nine support staff including both nursery nurses and classroom assistants. All teachers have specific areas of responsibility.

Our school has strong links with the local community. Our parents provide excellent support in many ways for the children and the school. Open evenings are well attended and special events are always brilliantly supported.

The school provides a wide range of extra-curricular activities and clubs. Staff give large amounts of their own time to provide a wide range of activities including Drama Club, European Club and Computer Club. The school is particularly successful on the sporting front and children can join football, netball, gymnastics, athletics and cricket clubs. We also have a choir and guitar club.
